It is perhaps the greatest adventure you can embark upon in Vietnam today. And April just might be the best month to do it!

So, that’s what we did!

After enjoying Tet holiday with Hai’s family in Saigon, taking a short excursion into the Mekong Delta towns of Vĩnh Long (Hai’s family roots) and Bến Tre  (coconuts, coconuts & more coconuts), relaxing at the Cam Lap Peninsula for a few days, exploring Malaysian islands and rain forests (more on this soon), and temple’ing in Chiang Mai, Thailand, it was time to head to northern Vietnam for the most exciting adventure of our Spring travels – motorbiking the Hà Giang Loop!

The trip from Hanoi to Hà Giang, where we’d begin our motorbike adventure, began at the Hanoi bus station at 9:00 pm on a “VIP Luxury” bus. VIP, hmmmmm – just marketing? NO!

A six-foot long sleeping bunk, television, massage mattress, phone charging station, and a privacy curtain! Not bad for $15 for the one-way six/seven-hour trip.

Arriving in Hà Giang at 4:00 am, we took a quick nap & shower at QT Motorbike rentals where we picked up our motorbike and then headed out from Hà Giang at 8:00 am for our 4-day adventure:

Hà Giang – Yên Minh – “Vietnam’s North Pole” – Đồng Văn – Mèo Vạc – Du Già – Hà Giang

The rest of the story is best told visually!

Truly breath-taking vistas:

Remote mountain villages:

Hmong markets:

Lots of critters:

And the world’s cutest children:

A truly once-in-a-lifetime awesome adventure … take a quick ride with us here:

  1. Oooh, that’s so lovely. I’ll print the pix and hang them at home and tag that as a “next travel to plan.” Thanks!
