So, it might seem that Eating Saigon!, in addition to revealing some of the best street food eating adventures in Saigon, devotes an inordinate amount of time and space discussing coffee and cafes. But, there’s a very good reason –

“When in Rome, ….”
“When in Saigon, Drink Coffee”

Whether you’re a local in Saigon or a visitor spending more than 24 hours here, there’s no doubt you’ll end up at least once each day in one of Saigon’s one million coffee houses. (Perhaps, a mild exaggeration, but then again, maybe not??)

From swank 5-star gourmet cappucinos boutiques to dark cafe alleys, Saigonese spend hours filling every coffee outlet in this city of 20+ million.

We do our part here at Eating Saigon!, not just because we love a good cup of Joe, but because some of the most comfortable seating, best air conditioning, and fastest internet – all necessities in producing Eating Saigon! – can be enjoyed at a Saigon coffee house.

In an earlier blog, we mentioned that our “hot tip” about the best chocolate shop in Saigon, Maison Marou!, was passed to us by our friend, James of Nomadic Notes, as we all rendezvoused for a mini-reunion at Bosgaurus Coffee.

But, we never quite got around to telling you about that rather trendy cafe.

Well, first is the location. Now, Hai and I usually spend our time navigating Saigon’s crowded streets and winding alley ways when searching out great street food and coffee. But, once in a while, we’re curious about where Saigon’s 1% are eating and drinking.

That’s what brought us to the exclusive Saigon Pearl neighborhood with it’s shady tree-lined suburban-Ohio-looking lanes. “Wow! is this still Saigon?!?” Well, yes it’s Saigon … as it’s being increasingly re-made.

One of these buccolic Saigon Pearl lanes took our motorbike to a lovely park along the Saigon River shore. And there, overlooking the lovely park and River was Bosgaurus Coffee.

Housed in a stately mansion-ette,

this high-tech cafe is the epitome of high-tech design … stainless steel and glass, suspended countertops, designer-industrial decor, and trendy caffeine offerings.

In addition to lattes, cappuccinos, and various coffee and tea blends, fruit drinks, yogurts, croissant, and waffles are offered. And, a bit strangely, a half-dozen pasta dishes are available.   Now, I admit I can’t honestly review the food options at Bosgaurus since I didn’t try any, but based on my life experiences, seems ordering Italian food at a Saigon coffee shop is unwise. I chose not to “go there” regarding the pasta options.

However, if you’re looking for “high-end”, great coffee. If you want to see how the 1% in Saigon live. If you want to enjoy a stroll along the Saigon River in a serene little park.

Or, if you just want to use the excellent internet to offer comments on Eating Saigon!’s blog, you might want to Uber or Grab over to the Bosgaurus in the Saigon Pearl neighborhood.

UPDATE – January, 2020:  Came here for their last day before closing for this year’s Tet Holiday. Still excellent coffees of all types!.
